About us
Based in the village of Madresfield on the outskirts of Malvern and built by Lord Beauchamp in 1894 for the local workers Madresfield Club was originally a working mans club.
The History of Madresfield Club
Madresfield Club was built by Lord Beauchamp in 1894 for the local workers and was originally a working mans club.
As part of the Madresfield Estate it has a remarkable history—Madresfield Court, the stunning moated manor house at its heart, has been home to the Lygon family for nearly 900 years.
The family held the title of Earl Beauchamp from 1815 until 1979, and the estate is perhaps best known today as the inspiration for Evelyn Waugh's beloved novel Brideshead Revisited. Edward Elgar also drew inspiration from Madresfield for his famous Enigma Variations.
Still owned by The Madresfield Estate, today the club operates as an independent not-for-profit for the local community, run entirely by a voluntary committee. We offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere to local residents and visitors alike—including well-behaved dogs and children.
Inside you'll find a fully stocked bar at proper club prices, plus pool, skittles, darts, crib and dominoes. Our function room is available for private hire at very affordable rates—perfect for birthday parties, wedding receptions, wakes, charity events and more. You can book the function room here.
Our heritage
When the club first opened its doors in 1894, it was officially known as the Madresfield Men and Church Institute Club—a proper Victorian title for a proper community institution. Times have changed, but our commitment to being a welcoming space for local people remains the same.
No history of Madresfield Club would be complete without mentioning Dave and Sue, who have served as custodians of the club for 40 years.
Their warmth, dedication and tireless hard work kept the heart of this place beating - welcoming visitors, pulling pints, and making sure everyone felt at home. Beyond the day-to-day running of the bar, they took pride in the upkeep of the building itself, maintaining and caring for the club so it remained a welcoming space for the whole community.
In 2025, they handed over the reins, but their legacy lives on in the friendly, well-kept club you see today. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude, they'll always be part of the Madresfield Club family and can often be found enjoying a drink in the bar.
Our People & Community Spirit
Madresfield Club is run entirely by volunteers who give their time to keep this place ticking. Our committee members are Andy, Kate, Michelle, Liz, Neil, Steve, Colin and Carl - you'll see us behind the bar, organising events, and generally making sure everyone has a good time.
If you've got a question, an idea, or just fancy a chat, we're always happy to help.
But the club is more than just the committee—it's a proper community hub. We're proud to host charity fundraising evenings, vintage tractor charity runs, arts and crafts nights, and all sorts of get-togethers throughout the year.
We're also home to five skittles teams and our darts team, Double Trouble, who compete in the Malvern Wednesday Darts League. Whether you're a regular or popping in for the first time, you'll find a friendly welcome and a real sense of village life.
